The Liberation Tower is the tallest structure in Kuwait and the 10th tallest tower in the world.
Construction of the tower commenced before the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and construction resumed after Saddam's forces were expelled. Upon completion in 1993, the tower was renamed the Liberation Tower, symbolizing Kuwait's liberation from Iraq.
The tower contains a revolving restaurant and observation platform (in the first disc-shaped pod; now closed to the public for security reasons), and also houses radio and other telecommunications offices. The structure stands at 1,221 ft at its pinnacle.
Thats tall. Not sure I would have the guts to go up. Is the restaurant still open? Was just the observation deck closed?
ReplyDeletea restaurant inside a tower!?!?!? that sounds fantastic! too bad they closed it down.
ReplyDeleteI like that photo. I think I might prefer to stand at the bottom of the tower and look up though, rather than go to the top and look down!

Its a shame that the revolving restaurant was closed. A tall looking tower none the less!
ReplyDeleteThis tower is spectacular.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pics you have here, I liked the ones of the water dispensers. It was something new I haven't heard of before :)
ReplyDeleteJim, the restaurant opens just one day a year (on Liberation day!) I've heard that the rental rates for the restaurant is toooooo much so nobody is interested in hiring the place.
ReplyDeleteKind of a waste to have such a beautiful tower and the public is not allowed. Have you ever been up there before it closed?
ReplyDeleteVer impressive. It would be fun to dine in the revolving restaurant
